'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses after the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful shot from outside the box, and the defender promptly slammed home the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible recovery given Swansea had been behind 2-0 deep into the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. He shared, "There was a spectator sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result secured a next round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, a team Galbraith pushed hard at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that far out," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the City players who complimented the way Orient played positively.

City's Quality

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused throughout of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a £1.5m deal. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly done the same in Wales. At the London club he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for his team and nation, shining for the Green and White Army, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including home and away games against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who grew up watching his dad, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was shut owing to conditions of bitter cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he comments, grinning. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "The decision proved quite easy, because I reached the point where I knew I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I believed I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at 5pm: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's nicknamed player transport, a team vehicle driven by club employees, Pete and Howard, which ferries players to and from practice and games.

"I travel with a teammate, the Brazilian, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's pleasant to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after starting his journey at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
